64445 @ 24V - ME WANT!

Although at what - 250 watts - something seems a bit crazy.

Muahahahahaha!

Lux,

Codeman is right, I would wait at least 30 minutes. I actually was playing with a pack last night, while packing some USL's.

The pack was a "leaker" and I wanted to see how much charge it would hold still, since I've replaced a few packs that leaked and didn't seem to be down much in output.

I figured that since it had leaked, it wouldn't hold as good a charge, so I fired it up right off the charger. I was wrong, POOF went the lamp!

The USL packs peak at about 15.5-15.9 volts after a full charge and with no load. They are technically 13.2 volt packs, that hold 12 volts for about 8-10 minutes before dropping off under the load of the 62138 or 64625.

With a 3" head, the 64625 puts out a big, bat wing hotspot, but most people seem to prefer the round hotspots, so I chose the 62138, even though the 64625 was a little cheaper.

Smooth vs. MOP in 3" definitely smoothes the edges, but it's still a bat wing. Throw is still inhibited by the size of the filament in comparison to the reflector, but it is definitely better with the 64625 than that 62138.

The 64623 really needs to be overdriven to shine (pun intended), and it REALLY pours the light out at 14.4v and above. I've pushed it to 15.6 volts, but others have gone higher.

Now if you REALLY want light, drop a 64445 at 24 volts in there and pump out better than 10,000 lumens!

Bill

I love reading your posts on all this.  I saw that 24V light that Mac did for someone.  Gotta get someone to make me one of those too.  They should call that one "The Paint Peeler" since it sounds like the heat is a problem...but for those short blasts it sounds like a blast...like the Larry 14K light that MadMaxabeam made for me.

A couple clarifications and corrections, after digging through my data:

At 12 volts the 64625 is rated at 3600 Lumens, the 64623 is rated at 2800 Lumens and the 62138 is also rated at 2800 lumens.

My experience is that the 64623 might be putting out the same amount of light as the 62138, but that it is yellower at this drive level.

And it is the 64655 lamp, not the 64445, that puts out over 10000 lumens at 24 volts.

Mac - that light is so cool - hoping the EM will send it to me when he gets bored!

Still loving my Torch and hoping to get one of the new FM heads for it (have to settle for red though)...
