FiveMega 1500L vs Mag85 vs 700L SMO

Mag 85   CBP1650 - SMO

FiveMega 1500L – SMO

FiveMega 700L – SMO

The new FiveMega 1500L in a 2D 8-Nimh Nickel package seems to be putting out more Lumen’s than a Mag85 3D 9 – Nimh light. The 1500L overdrives a Wa-1164 bulb to 1500L and 8hrs of life. The light is absolutely gorgeous too!

Man, you sure know how to take some fabulous beamshots.  What kind of camera do you use for those?  I have a 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot S45 which has a bunch of manual settings...so it seems like I should be able to take some of these pix using my tripod for it.

I can't really say that this light is any brighter than several of my Mag85's.  My favorite light now is the FM 1D size Mag, but using an AWR hotdriver with 4x14500 (unprotected) driving an 1166 bulb.  I think it is almost as bright as an 1185....hard to tell a difference when I use a FM 2" Deep reflector on it and compare to a 9x600s 1185 which also has the deep reflector.

Added pics of lights to (1) first Post...

Thanks Lux, I try!    I use the Canon A620...

I have the FM 1D also, Love it too...

The 1500L's bulb 1164 focuses to a wider beam than the 1185 bulb. I like that with a SMO reflector. The 1331 bulb of the 700L is even tighter with less light though. We had some heavy fog the other day and to my surprise the 1160 bulb in my MagCharger focuses even tighter than all three of the above.

Yeah, fog here last couple evenings in Connecticut.  I wish you could see the Mag1D with the 1166 driving it.  I should figure out how to make this camera take some beamshot pix.

Lux

I was saving the FM 1D gun metal grey host for a Cree mod but now I may have to go with the 1166 with hot-driver (have to wait for that). Bright as Mag85 in 1D sounds intriguing. Delghi 3” head will make it a little throw monster.

What’s the runtime?

It has run at least 20-25 minutes...but remember these are only 14500's..so there's not much juice in them.  If you need more run time you have to get one of FM's 1.5D and use the larger 14670 cells.  I'm not exactly sure of the run time, because I tend to use it in 20-30 sec increments, rather than keeping it on all the time.  When I asked AWR why this was so bright compared to stock FM 1185 mags....he said the hot driver is set...oh never mind my paraphrasing...just read what he said in this thread
