GH-24 and GH-15 on 3 cr123a batteries
« on: November 28, 2006, 02:29:59 PM »
Someone posted up doing a mod on a Mag and using 3 cr123a batteries and using the GH-123. But I'm thinking that the run time on that can't be real long, so I was considering using a GH-15 which puts out half as many lumens but the Amps on the GH-15 are 1 versus 1.7 on the GH-24.

I realize that this is a loaded question, but how would I know that the GH-15 could handle the load?

Hey Buck!

Maybe someone will weigh in on this, but you might drop Silverfox a PM and ask him.  He'd know for sure.

Well - keep in mind on the GH24, you are overdriving the bulb with 3 CR123s (don't worry - it can take it).....

I have mentioned in the past about my favorite 3X123 bulb, but never seemed to gain interest. Anyway. I use a bulb for the Sears Ultra Beam rechargeable light. It has a long life, and is much brighter than the normal 5 cell overdrive bulbs. (other than GH24). I frosted my bulb and I seems to equal (or better) than my Wolf Eyes 9A.

The last time I looked they were about $6.99 for package of two. Sears part #34 93204....for Ultra-Beam Xenon rechargeable lanterns. Pricey, but I have never had a bulb failure to date. But, the first bulbs were marked made in Japan, now the bulbs are marked made in Hong Cong. Work best with light bulb frosting. Not as bright as GH24, but good run time and very bright compared to other 5 cell overdriven bulbs.

The GH24 is truly a great lamp for normal usage!

It will also run very nicely on 2 LiIon cells, which seem to be very close to the voltage that 3x123 drop to when driving this lamp.

The GH24 is easily ordered and they ship very rapidly from England.

When things slow up at work, I was thinking about doing a Group Buy on the GH24 lamps.  This would let everyone get them at an even better price and cut down on the shipping as well.  Thinking of starting it around early Feb?
