signing in...

gotta a question. I'm getting some flak about how many ti cubs were produced.

last I heard there were 10 made total on a custom commission. six were released to be sold

are these numbers correct?

by the way, I'm not biased or anything :)  but I think ti cub looks better than ti cham

thanks,

12 made (not counting TnC's own that he kept), four were kept by "us" and eight sold.  But why would you catch "flak" for any of that?  I don't understand.

I posted only 6 were available to be sold. someone posted the numbers of ti cubs kept changing.

my mistake posting 6, when it should be 8 available for sale. sorry about that!

dad, I wasn't even in the ti cham drawing :D

There could have been confusion on that (8 or 9) depending on if TnC's was counted.  At first I didn't mention the existence of his due to it being a private deal he made with me as it was "slightly defective" according to Chris (must have been soemthing extremely minor as I did not notice anything obvious while I was putting his together) but then he later told me he was going to show it anyway as an example of what his shop was capable of, after which I acknowledged its existence.

I bought bmstrong's back in October.  With the widened bezel, 1mm shorter head, and McR-20 in it, thanks to ArsMachina, it's got the prettiest beam of all my lights!  So, Sign Me Up!  BTW, ArsMachina still had his in October.

Oh, yeah, I EDC mine.  There's no way this little jewel's a sittin' on a shelf somewhere.

That's right, Ray, I remember when you bought that one.  OK, you're added to the list.  Need confirmation on ArsMachina.

Call me crazy, but I HAD  the widened Ti bezel, but preferred the look of the standard Ti bezel, so I swapped it with GregW.  He now owns the opened-up version, though I'm not certain he actually owns a Ti Cub yet.   :icon_scratch:

troy, you are a crazy man.

But I do know what you mean- the heavy bezel looks good in a halliburton briefcase/burlwood dashboard kind of way (ie substantial, expensive, and classy).

I just want all the photons to be free to pursue their destiny!

need to send mine in for widening up. normally I'd just chuck it in my lathe, but don't want to take the risk of damage. I don't turn ti regularly.

do I contact TNC for this?

I think TnC's free offer is long over. Ars Machina will prolly still be willing, but it does require a long trip oerseas.

Title: Re: Ti Cub Sign In
Post by: arewethereyetdad on January 09, 2006, 11:54:29 PM
You guys go for it.  But I will tell you that, cosmetically, the light looks way better in its original unmodded state.  Yes, the light let in tons more light opened up, but it may have also sacrificed some level of waterproofness in the process.  And, I just don't like the look as much.   ;)

The other risk is that, as there are only a handful of these parts in the entire world, the shipper may lose your bezel, resulting in a serious  bummer for you.

TITANIUM CUB!!!!! Who me???:o  Hehe!

One Ti Cub checking in from Texas. :icon_salut:  It`s locked up in the Kenster Titanium Flashlight Vault! :D  Not actually a vault but a very large, secure safe. Well, the light is more like sitting on top of it really. :-[   I can`t remember how to open that blasted "Kenster Proof" box. :-[
Anyway, mine is a Ti Cub but Mr B performed a little surgery on it and my Cub now has the brains of a Chameleon. ;)

uhh, how could I miss this thread ???

Sure I still have one, once I had even two of them ;)
I got them both from Bogus1 and one I sent back to him after modding.
I have no idea if it is still in his hands, but it also had an opened bezel...

For me still one of my all time favourites which I will for sure never give away.
Yesterday I got my NovaTac 120P and it is not as bright as my P4 modded Ti LionCub !

PS. Maybe I will find some time soon to finally make some more of the Pila tubes for the Ti cub and maybe I will also perhaps make one or t
wo (for sure not more!) Ti Cub Replicas...

And sure I still do the bezel openings.
And because making new heads from the scratch is not a very big prob even the loss by shipping would not be a real big problem.
The only thing you should never loose is the control module - you might need to buy a Ti Chammy to replace it ;)

Need a teaser???

Yep, I remember that light, Jochen.  Your tube on that light really makes it!  I still, to this day, thank you for making my three no-lanyard-hole brass Cub tails, which three of my four original brass Cubs still sport.   ;)  I also bought those from Bogus1.

This was a very small run made a few years ago and have long been spoken for.  The only way to find them now is the rare listing on BST.

ti cub is the side switch equal to ti PD. only ti cub came out long before ti PD.

both lights are equally impressive in their own right. both have almost identical footprint.
one is for folks that like mechanical controls, other is for folks that like electronic UI.

only defect I can think of ti cub is how it was marketed. TOO few was offered with a promise not to make any more.

one of the world's best lights was only to be enjoyed by a tiny number of lucky folks.

Reg, when I look at your Cub I really think you urgently need a full size diameter head for it :)
The downturned middle part is clearly visible and disturbing the clean look of this light, espacially with the Pila tube...

Just see the difference and also note the opened bezel:

Title: Re: Ti Cub Sign In
Post by: regentag on January 29, 2008, 08:40:03 AM
Yes... bone stock on both ends.

I was just messin' about clamping the screws down and all... I never actually installed it on the 'Cub. It was a perfect fit with probably just enough room for a Coke can or Teflon shim for protection if you were so inclined.

The thick bezel of a proper ("unopened") Lioncub was a great match with the TID's heavy rim.  No lost lumens, no overhang... just rugged good looks and the additional "authority" that comes along with carbon steel and pointy teeth.  8)

Cheers,
