Changing LH/LC stars - to a RED?
« on: August 22, 2010, 02:01:33 AM »
I'm aware that the LH/LC were designed with drop-in star replacement capabilities, as is a hallmark of all the Lion Pride lights. Now, a recent communication from someone who tends to prefer red light for low-light work got me thinking - is it possible to replace the white Luxeon with a red or red/orange (AlInGaP family) for a dedicated variable-power red?

Based on what I know it would be possible, except that at wide-open PWM (ie. full direct drive mode) a rechargeable cell might heavily overdrive the red Lux, so a resistor might be in order for safety's sake. PWM can be used with a resistor as I understand (George's comments about the D2DIM).

Now, imagine a 250+ lumen red/orange blaster..
