5 D cell mag

I bought a 5D cell maglight for $3.00 at goodwill. I then bought a garrety xenon bulb for a 4D flashlight. I am disappointed. I am not impressed with the output/ Garrety must suck I imagine.

From what I've read, there is a radio shack bulb that is very bright when overdriven. This 4 cell garrity bulb in a 5 cell light isn't.

It was dirty and getting only 4.? Volts. It's not as yelllow now but I'm not blown away like some people and their CR123 2C MagMod and bulb

I may not remember this correctly, but I believe if you run a 4 cell "Magnum Star" or whatever Mag's halogen bulb is called (not the krypton) with 5 D NiMHs, that's supposed to work out well.

One of the keys to D cell lights whether LED or incan, is to run NiMH's.  The output is relatively flat (without a regulation circuit) and  they run forever!  Still, other than maybe a 2 D, they're clumsy as hell, just the same.  Hey, I have a 4 D 32 LED m@g!  :D

5 D mag will fit 4 emoli cells=16.8v and run a 64623 like a dog.

that may have been true at one time. Certainly was what I understood.

Northern Lights has been researching and developing a soon to be released bipin G6.35 adaptor.  Have been fortunate to received some of his bi-pins for testing and evaluation. 

thermal imaging studies show heat patterns and have a fair idea of what is needed for heat management with extreme, 200w+, incan. mods.  With use of fairly reasonable priced ceramic bat insulation bi-pin adaptor, of course the higher resistance in the circuit the higher heat production so all the usual and couple of not so know resistance fixs make a difference plastic pedistals are not melting with 200w+.

So yes to metal reflector, have ordered some from new manufacture about $14 shipped, will follow up with report.

What about ceramic bi-pin holders that are common for 12v halogen bulbs. Can they be made to fit onto the maglight switch assembly?

Yes - they can and have been made - most notably by Fivemega, Maglight pimper extraordinarie.

It's a very nice "drop-in" ceramic and nickel plated brass holder for the W/A series of bulbs.

They are probably "out there" if you look.  About $30 IIRC.

Yes FM makes bi-pin g4 sockets, he does not make g6.35 size which is needed for Osram bulbs

No one makes G6.35pin bi-pin drop in sockets available to the public that I know.  If you do please let me know.

There are ceramic G6.35 pig tailed sockets, have not used them.  Northern Lights bi-pin sockets have less resistance than FM's as tested by me.

I suppose one could used a pair of alligator clips and tape to the pedistal and would work. Having a ciruit that shows effiency and knowledge of electronics is the Art part of electronics as opposed to putting together a bunch of parts.  Mods showing high efficency of 0.4v or less difference between vbat and vbulb tells the story for me.

Sorry, I don't have a bulb nor the ceramic bi-pin at this time. I do, however, have a potential host.

Why would I care if there is a .27v difference? It would be hella bright as it is and i'm not entering any lumen olympics competition.
