This thread is so good, that even the anchovy haters can't look away, it's just like the trainwreck...  :fart: :evil6: :evil6: :toothy12:

BTW, I like chicken too, but I'm not quite sure you need to tenderize it this way. From the king of exotic eats himself ;)

Anchovies are Goof!

but smoked oysters are one of the few things that, depite near starvation hunger (years ago at University), came back up in less than 2 minutes..... Never again.

Of course I did buy the oysters at Big Lots...... Could that have affected the outcome?  I guess I'll never know.

lets not forget steamed muscels!

Actually, yes, I think it could have.  I bought a six-pack of anchovy tins from Costco (is anything there less than a six-pack?  :rolleye:) and it was not the greatest.  I definitely think one can buy old/cheap/low quality seafood.  I will always spend the extra buck from now on for the better stuff.

Well, I know of a solution - drink enough booze and the alcohol will kill anything! Or at least that's what They tell me. I wonder that's just a pretext to not only have their oyster, but get drunk too.. sounds good to me though!

I must say the S&W ones are not as kickass as the John West ones in BBQ sauce. The S&W (pictured above) definitely need more salt.

Geologist's comment about mussels reminds me of one adventure I had almost ten years ago... a bunch of folks and I harvested something like 400 mussels from the shoreline, SOMEHOW managed to get them back to our place, turned it into a gigantic disaster area as we furiously scraped the mussels sending marine clay and soil and everything flying around. Then we threw the mussels into cold water - those that floated to the top were immediately discarded, because that was a sure sign they'd been dead for some time. After the rinse, it was into HOT water - yup, boiled. Plain. No nothing, no condiments.

Best seafood I've ever eaten.

The year after that, they passed a law declaring it illegal to harvest mussels. But I was damn glad to have the chance to have eaten while I could.. :icon_biggrin:

Man, great photo!  I love smoked oysters!  I could eat ten cans if somebody put 'em in front of me.  Of course, I'd probably lose it later.   :rolleye:  And I love mussels, too.

There you go again Maxabaker - maybe Troy should send some "fish in a can" and maybe a user friendly flashlight over to help you cure you!

I think you've got it, or it's that he likes the camera I'm using.

Yeeeessssssss, the Canon 350D with 17-85 lens WILL bring out every last detail in whatever it's focused on :icon_biggrin:

... that includes oysters shot at 53mm, 1/60 f/5.6 with onboard flash. :rotflmao:

BTW, once you salt 'em a little bit, the oysters are really good. Speaking of fish in a can, there are sardines in ketchup over here but not as tasty as what we've been eating.

You know, as much as I love the taste of smoked oysters, they have got to be the most aesthetically unpleasing food in the world.  As the photo quite clearly shows, the smoked oyster will never be known as photogenic.  :*)
