half watt, ya your solution will probably work... but why?

much simpler to place a drop of solder on board and be done.

Is there any reason not to solder onto the battery?  If you have a nice iron you are not going to significantly heat the battery.  You could just put a blob on there and flatten it before it completely cools.

if you do it all the time and have the correct soldering rig... then you probably will not damage cell.
best to contact weld cells, but not cost effective to spring for a contact welder.

it's amazing all the solutions posted to get around putting a dab of solder on board.  :BangHead:

a drop of solder on the board???   what board?   no board on these cells, just a flat metal positive end.

Wow,

some scary photos of what can go wrong, but a lot of great info on how to do it / make it right! Thanks

Now I realise that most of you seem to believe there is a danger with combining magnets with lithium-ion cells
 :'( :'( :'( :'(

HOWEVER
I have used the two, in conjunction, in MANY projects, and have not found myself in peril once.

I would, in fact, reccomend it to any budding amatuer flashlight modifier on these forums.
Just proceed with caution guys.

 :P 8)  :D :D

remember, a torch is only as dangerous as the battery used

I take it this applies to using them in the light itself? I do use them to charge the batteries in the Orb Raw and Raw NS in the Nano chargers.
