Thanks to many members digging up more reference information, the Mr. Bulk Quick Reference Chart is filling out nicely and the Chameleon catagory is now complete!!!!
FF member Osprey Guy recently emailed me the following information in response to my asking him for help with unclear DamCham details which he cleared up nicely. With his kind permission I am posting it here so it will never be lost and available to all.
"For starters...To the best of my knowledge every one of the DC's was nitred blued. Charlie contracted to have them all blued at one time by the guy who also made/supplied the damascus steel, Delbert Ealy. They were simply heat-blued in a hot oven. FYI- All carbon-based steel can be blued (as opposed to stainless which can not be blued). I did not keep records but I believe that I refinished about 6 or 7 of the DC's. I say "refinished because I didn't just nitre blue them, I spent a significant amount of time on each light sanding out all the deep grind scores which were left by the machine shop who made the bodies. It would have been much, much too cost-prohibitive for Charlie to have paid the machine shop to take each light to a fine, polished finish.
My price varied slightly between $175-200...Depending on my workload at the time and/or if I had to put in a little extra sweat due to easpecially deep grind marks. And in a couple of instances I spent more time than usual "playing" with the color."
