Lights Buy/Sell/Trade / FS: Stainless Steel GatLight V2
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:57:16 PM »
For sale is a stainless steel, Version 2 GatLight.  It has been turned on and off a few times but no hard use.  I have no pictures but if you're buying this you already know what it looks like.  Comes with nylon sheath, rechargable 123 battery, tools, and instruction sheet--just like how I got it.  Asking $300 plus shipping (priority mail with delivery confirmation).  Insurance is optional.  Purchase goes to the first person to post an unqualified "I'll take it" in the thread.  I accept money orders, cashiers checks, and cash PayPal.  U.S. buyers only, please.  I will try to answer any PMs and emails as quickly as possible.  Thanks.

Lights Buy/Sell/Trade / *SOLD* FS: Brass Lionhead and Brass 168 tube
« on: October 29, 2006, 10:04:53 AM »
For sale are a brass lionhead and brass 168 tube made by Otokoyama for use with the Lioncub.  Both pieces have a bit of tarnish on them and the lionhead has a few spots on it.  I assume you can polish these out if so desired.  I'm not sure I'll be able to get pics up so if these cosmetic issues are a problem for you then you should look elsewhere.  Aside from the tarnish, neither of these pieces has seen much use, instead sitting on my shelf most of the time.

Asking $50 plus shipping for either or $90 plus shipping for both.  Purchase goes to whomever unconditionally says "I'll take it" in the thread.  I will try to answer PM's and emails on a timely basis.  I will accept money orders, bank cashiers checks, or cash PayPal only.  U.S. shipping only.

Hotwires / Suggestions for Tigerlight
« on: July 31, 2005, 11:08:29 AM »
I have a Tigerlight FBOP whose battery crapped out some time ago.  Any suggestions on what to do with it (have it modded, etc.), its new capabilities, and approximately how much it would cost?  Thanks.

Talk Story / You know what??!! (Auto Insurance Thread)
« on: July 31, 2005, 04:04:35 AM »
...I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.  No, really.  Progressive decided to arbitrarily raise my rates by almost 50% so I changed my policy provider.  Of course, since my policy with Progressive is about to expire, they've been calling me with their automated phone system every few hours like a jealous ex-girlfriend trying to get me to renew.  They don't seem to have a number to press for "Leave Me Alone!".

edited to make thread subject more obvious

Hotwires / What is a hotwire?
« on: July 28, 2005, 08:20:15 AM »
The subject line comes from a rather comical exchange at one of the HAT builds where a relative newbie (you know who you are!) asked very earnestly what a hotwire is without getting a clear answer.  Since I'm not knowledgeable about hotwires myself, can the people who come here try to come up with a working definition of hotwires, and what this includes and doesn't include?  I'd be very interested in seeing the answers to help clarify this section and its scope (and just for my own edification).  Thanks in advance.

I'm happy to see that there is a dedicated Hotwire section and look forward to lots of interesting and informative threads here.  Please, get the ball rolling and post away!

General Flashlight Discussion / A2 Revisited
« on: July 23, 2005, 11:20:46 PM »
I purchased a Surefire A2 some time ago, not long after I joined CPF.  I liked the idea of having two levels of light and it was an improvement over the Nuwai (though inexpensive and solidly built) I obtained earlier because of the two-stage switch and slimmer profile (oh, and pocketclip).  This is still my EDC in spite of the plethora of MR Bulk lights I have primarily because of ease of replacement in case of loss.

With all the collective experience and various perspectives here, the question I pose is whether the A2 is still a relevant light considering 1) Bright 3W LEDs can throw as far or farther than an A2 incandescent bulb, 2) More than 2 levels of light are now available, as opposed to when the A2 premiered, and 3) Color rendition is different between incandescent and LEDs.  Keep in mind also that the A2 tailswitch, which I like a lot, appears to be unique (I don't think the other resistored switches have quite as elegant a solution.  Correct me if I'm wrong.).  Put another way, perhaps more simply, is to ask whether the A2 platform or something similar is worth improving.

I fully expect some thoughtful discussion, if only to show that the MR Bulk forum has many interested and engaged flashlight enthusiasts and is not merely a collection of fawning sycophants.  The latter is an idea so unfounded that I question the need to even address it beyond proving through our posts that we rise above such banal (and secretive) derision.  Any comments?  On the A2, not the second part.
