Garage Sale / Boker Lambda Cera Titan
« on: February 11, 2008, 05:27:23 AM »
From the boker website,1,16

"The world's finest folding knives featuring the newly developed blade material: sintered titanium. Past attempts to produce a titanium blade have missed the mark since titanium alone cannot be hardened like steel, failing to produce any kind of sustained cutting capacity. However, our Cera-Titan blade consists of sintered titanium powder, which includes extremely hard elements mixed in with a bit of silver particles. This revolutionary process offers the benefits that traditional steel cannot. The Cera-Titan blade is 40% lighter than steel, will stay sharp much longer than a high-grade stainless steel blade, will not rust, and is flexible. One more plus, when sharpening is needed, the blade can be honed on a conventional sharpening system (finish with a ceramic rod for best results). Although the overall hardness of this blade is rather low, the cutting power and edge retention still surpasses that of any of the high caliber blade steels currently in use."

Has anyone been curious how this blade material would perform but don't want to buy an expensive knife to find out?

Here's your chance to get one slightly used for free.

Mr. Bulk / Modifying Lioncub and Chameleon with Seoul led.
« on: March 21, 2007, 12:06:15 AM »
I am thinking of doing this modification for a small fee. See this thread.,4471.msg76857.html#msg76857

If anyone else is offering this specific mod. already please let me know.

I want to use this thread to do some research on this mod. before I actually do any.

Also please post here if you are interested in getting this mod done.

The main questions I have are about the Chameleon and Lioncub drivers.

Can you use the Lioncub driver without sorting the VF of the leds?  If so approx. how many ma is this driver off a freshly charged Rcr123 battery?

Is their anywhere that I can purchase the Seoul leds from that have already been sorted for VF? (For a premium)
What VF does the led need to be to be able to run at least on the 1000ma table of the Chameleon driver safely?

Also is there a reflector that can be used in the Lioncub  that is made Specifically for the Seuol led that would not require any modification or less modification.

Is there a better reflector for use in the Chameleon with the Seoul led?

Did the lioncubs have the same reflector as the Chameleon with slimhead?
If not are they also good reflectors for use with the Seoul led with a little modification?

If I will be able to do this mod or not is dependent on the answers to the above questions. I will only do this if I can do it correctly.

Should I use stars or (bare emitters with my copper spacer). It would be much easier to use stars that have electrical isolation.

Lights Buy/Sell/Trade / Lion cub with U bin Seoul P4 $160
« on: March 16, 2007, 11:11:28 PM »

I had originally purchased a slim head and slim tail for my Chameleon flashlight. I gave my Chameleon flashlight away to a friend after modifying it with a Seoul U bin emitter. I purchased a extra control module and used the slim head, slim tail, a lioncub driver, and Seoul U bin P4 led to make this light. The light has a nice bright and white beam. It also has a nice beam pattern to it.
I also polished the aluminum to make this light look much better and installed a gray switch boot.

I had a machinist where I work make me a copper spacer which if I remember correctly was .105 thick and approx. .605 in diameter. (The thickness of the stock star plus .030 for the different focal length of the new emitter). I then removed approx. .030 from the back of the stock reflector which gave it a nice beam. The led was applied under pressure with Artic Alumina to the copper spacer, then the spacer was epoxied to the flashlight body with Artic Alumina under little pressure so not to make electrical contact with body. This gets the heat from the emitter to the copper spacer quickly since it was applied under pressure and there is a larger surface area to get the heat to the body of the flashlight where I had to leave the Artic thicker to isolate from the body. I painted the wires where they are soldered to the emitter with fingernail polish and made a washer out of a thin piece of plastic and placed between the emitter and the reflector to keep the reflector from touching the leads.

I will offer a 1 year labor warranty on this light. (The purchaser of this light would buy the parts). I have modified several lights with better leds and have not had any problems with any so far. If a better Led comes to the market I would also be willing to install it for you if it did not require much modification to the light.

Selling to fund the purchase of another flashlight.

Asking $160 shipped.

I accept paypal, MO, or personal check (will wait to clear).
