Title: Andrewwynn's Space Cannon Raffle....ALL DONE
Post by: BraddahBill on August 04, 2005, 07:57:53 PM
Have I got the raffle for you!..

It's the Space Cannon vH Delux (http://www.imagometrics.com/FLReviews/RECH_7.htm)

There is a comprehensive review HERE (http://www.imagometrics.com/FLReviews/RECH_7.htm)

Here is a Summary of the light:

5W LiON light exactly the size of the Maglite 2D but lighter since it has built-in LiON battery pack and charger.

It has 4 modes:

The first three modes are cycled with a momentary switch press and the 4th is accessed from any state including off by holding the momentary switch down.. it returns to the previous state upon release... as a built-in lock-out against accidental activation it uses a clever 'mouse up' computer-controlled switching that makes it nearly impossible to accidentally activate and has the benefit of not using a mechanical switch to switch current.

The light really is beautiful.... I've measured about 3500 lux at one meter.. and it's only 'that dim' because the 'hot spot' is a really nice broad beam not just a pencil thin beam.. this does limit it's usable range but it's certainly over 150'.. I only am interested in letting it go because I think I can use it for a higher purpose.. supporting MBF and because my own light, the RT4 is 40mm shorter and outputs 3 1/2x the light it just doesn't get used much, mostly as a 'loaner'.

The light is a prototype, I don't think they ever mass produced it so it has a unique one-of-a-kind distinction which makes it a perfect light for a raffle like this.. I estimate the value if it was produced would be between $250 and $350.. it is quite a nice light.

I favor a raffle because it gives 'the little guy' and advantage vs. an auction or direct sale.. I'm not interested in the money from the proceeds of the raffle.. I have bigger goals for it, but the more that is generated the more successful that goal will be.

I have come up with a sneaky loophole to donate to MBF through this raffle.. if successful the raffle will be directly supporting MBF and it's members.

Because of the small user base of MBF I've determined that the best price for the tickets would be $7 in-case not many tickets are sold I won't loose out too badly (i.e. selling the light for 1/3 of it's value).

I hope that I can sell about 50 tickets, but 20 would be enough that I won't be sad... if somehow more successful than 50 sales it will all go 'toward the cause'.. since originally I was going to raffle off the light and give 110% of the sales to the cause... what I've come up with I think is even more generous.. I will release the details of my plan if the sales go well and before the close of the auction so people can make a decision if they want a ticket based on that plan.

The cutoff will be August 14, Central Standard Time or 60 tickets sold whichever comes first.

This is not an official MBF raffle.. just my own... and MBF hasn't set up a raffle Paypal account yet so tickets are bought directly from me... I will only use my cash or credit paypal account even though it costs more specifically to eliminate any possible confusion of ticket numbering.. the numbers will be based on the paypal time stamp.. and I will reply to each receipt with your ticket numbers so there is a papertrail.

The forum moderator will pick the winning number at random and will report the number to me and the master B to keep things up n up.

Tickets will be $7 each.. pay with this button: (https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but23.gif) (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=aw%40rouse%2ecom&undefined_quantity=1&item_name=Space%20Cannon%20Raffle%20Ticket&amount=7%2e00&shipping=0%2e00&no_shipping=1&cn=Include%20your%20MBF%20nickname&currency_code=USD&charset=UTF%2d8&charset=UTF%2d8)

Note: payment is with paypal.. but you do not need a paypal account to pay only a check card or credit card.

I have my fingers crossed that this will be a successful raffle... I hope to be able to reveal my 'plan' I think that you'll all like it and will be highly supportive of it once I can release the details... in any event.. it's completely unofficial but it's a direct support of MBF and the members of MBF if this raffle is successful.. I need at least 20 tickets sold to make that a reality so buy one or three (wink wink) and let's make the first MBF raffle a raging success.

I also have my fingers crossed for 'the little guy' because my favorite thing about a raffle is that somebody with a limited budget can get a killer light they'd never be able to afford and with the relatively low quantity of tickets the odds of winning are pretty high. Who doesn't like to cheer for the under dog? In spite of that.. it's also completely fair for the 'over dog' with a huge collection to want to have this unique light.. buy in if it interests you I want all the support i can generate for MBF.

Here is your chance to own an absolutely unique light... literally one-of-a-kind.. well.. they might have made a 'few' but this is a prototype not a production light and it's quite a nice light.. if I can source a clear glass lens before the raffle closes I will include it with the light, otherwise you can always get one from flashlightlens.com and do your first mod to your new killer light.

7 tickets so far.. i was a little bit bummed when late last night i only had two tix but when i woke up this morning and there were 5 more that was pretty cool.. i did laugh as i read the notes with the payments and several were for Raggie.. i think you have some good friends Rag.

Somebody sent me a pdf for the light.. i'll go find it.. you can check out website (http://www.spacecannon.it/home.htm)

They are 'the people' who made the memorial in lights at the site of the WTC.. they use bulbs almost identical to the one i'll be using in the RT3000.. they just used 5000W bulbs vs the 3000 I have.

Their own PDF datasheet is HERE (http://www.spacecannon.it/Img_Download/Documenti%20Download/29.DELUX%20torch/29.DELUX%20torch%20Data%20sheet%20ENG.pdf)

Tell your friends.

I want to sell few enough the odd of winning are high, but enough enough to make it worth giving up such a charmer.. i can't wait to send it off and hear back what the winner thinks.

That's very cool of you Aten.. did ya'll hear that.. you live over the pond, Aten has a 220V power supply to charge the light .. very cool.

I'm going to let a 'cat' out of it's bag... i was going to wait 'til 20 tix but it's close enough... Here is my 'loophole' i figured out and it's getting close enough to make it a reality... The space cannon light is completely a donation to MBF... but since MBF doesn't 'take' donations, I decided i would raffle it off and take the proceeds and pick out a different light of my own choosing (makes it more fun for me)... from the BST of MBF... and you guessed it... raffle that one off too. I call it the 'rolling raffle'. I figure it will help people needing to sell lights and help of course the lucky SOG (son ofa gun).. that wins the raffle and with any luck draw some attention and interest to MBF. Right now i have about 1/2 the tickets sold to really keep the thing self-sustaining.. about 30 tickets average.. but more for a start would not hurt things in-case a future raffle with a lower value light might not have as big of a draw.

So.. that's my 'sneaky' plan i think it's fun and definitely in the spirit of sharing and of MBF.. i came up with it myself it's just my own 'awr rolling raffle'. Help make it a reality if you can... spread the word.

i had a similar funny thought about that.. technically you are supposed to pick the 'quasi-cash' since you aren't buying a product but buying a ticket for a chance.. so there is a good chance you don't get that money-back option.

As I recall, using the PayPal button had everything set up with no selections available.  .63 seems a bit steep (almost 10%!) to cover a transaction of 7 bucks.  PayPal and Google will eventially own the world.

What a dastardly plan! And why must we use Paypal...    oh I know, the Dark Lord controls Paypal, so while we innocently pay $7 for raffle tickets, he scoops off 10% off every transaction in order to make it back! And that's why MBF doesn't require any "donations" because he's raking it in! Oh my gawd, the conspiracy! Fear immensely! Quick, someone fetch the tin foil hats so that we don't all fall victim to the Dark Side!  :protest: :rotflmao: :naughty: :angel12:   :illtakeit: :ppsent: :sold:

just a couple days behind updating.. it's up-to-date now.. including a bit of a 'shuffle' since apparently i missed lightstream's payment.. it's annoying when paypal receipts hide themselves in sub-folders, but that's why i use the paypal time-stamp.. i will double-check the paypal log from the site before i give Bill the final list of numbers.

Spread the word i'm a little short of pullin' off my goal, but sold enough tickets i'll be happy for the luck SOG to get the light and happy to get it into somebody's hands that will use it more.

Loalight, sounds like fun!  Congrats!  And an Arc AA as the runner-up for Raggie?   :naughty:

It was more of a joke anyway, since that Arc AA has been round the horn, as it were.   :D  I'm calling it the "Arc AA Slut" on the other thread.  :laughing6:

Hey loa,

So you gonna git hitched with a light in yore pocket?  Wow, then you'd be ready for the honeymoon's first night! :laughing7:

J/K - what are you, a justice of the peace?  A wedding singer? :naughty:

Heheheh, nah, some friends of mine have rented a place called Camp and Sons for their wedding. It's a lovely place. Off the grid in N Ca, gardens hand-cultivated by a family for 30 years, natural pools, a river, wood-fired hot tubs, a labyrinth, all manner of camping environs... paradise!

I've set up many thousands of $$$ of nightclub lighting there on many occasions, but not this time. This time I am just a guest, and darn glad of it!

Hey all-

the Cannon Arrived today!!

First impressions:
smoooooth FOCUSable beam. didn't know about the focus, that's nice :) brings back unfond memories of mags, and puts them to shame!
My first LuxV. I like it!
excellent weight, build quality, and chaging system. this is a first rate product.
Hotspot, as mentioned, is nice and wide.
Brightness is good, but that wide hotspot really makes this unique among my lights. Now I'll have to start reading about high-flux LuxVs..
switch is a bit confusing! but works well when you understand it.

beamshots and more extensive notes are going to have to wait, unfortunately. I just got some bloodwork back from the doctor and I apparently have some significant and mysterious infection... and I feel like it. May very well not be able to go to this wedding, which I've been looking forward to all summer. :(

thank you again to Andrew, and to all of you who entered this raffle. MBF ++++!

Hey folks-

sorry I'm not going to be able to post beamshots on this one for a while. I got checked into the hospital and will be here for a couple weeks.

I don't even have any flashlights with me :(

Thanks guys. Apparently (get this) I've been walking around (and working) with a perforated appendix for 3 weeks. Didn't even know that was possible.  antibiotics and surgery and morphine will sort me out, I guesssssssssss..........................................................

eek, never heard of that man.  On the bright side, you'll get to see what morphine is like!  :*)  Sorry, horrible joke.

You're in our thoughts loa, rest up and take care of first things first.  Good luck with the surgery and please keep us updated on how you're doing if you're feeling up to it.  If not, just get back to us when you're good and ready dammit!

Now get well soon so you can give us a field report on that badboy.

Can or should it be removed?  I hear it's an unnecessary internal appendage anyway, just waiting to become inflamed or all sorts of other terrible things.

Hi Andrew!  Just out of curiousity, what ever happened to the "rolling raffle"?

I may be able to re-inaugurate it- Although I do love the Space Cannon, I am finding that I am not using it as much as I ought. I just generally use a smaller light!

It was so so cool (and such a morale booster) to have won this while I was in the hospital. I'd like to push the feeling on, if there is interest.

The SC does have an UNBELIEVABLY smooth beam, and focusses. And it's a LuxV.. with a current top-shelf emitter this thing would kill. Hmm, maybe I should start thinking about using a larger flashlight....

So. Whaddya say? Think I ought?

Loalight, that's awfully generous of you.  And, I, too, am ready to throw the "Arc Slut" back into the fold, so to speak.  So we have a couple of pretty decent items here.

i think it's a really neat idea.. mebbe with the triple the member count we can drum up some more sales. It is a very neat light.. for somebody that doesn't have the likes of a 5W LED light it is just wonderful.

Are we talking about THE Space Cannon vH ? Still doing the rounds eh? Guess what I found out about this light. The circuitry was designed by Space Cannon vH but the fabrication was done in Bulgaria by a company that specializes in Dental Office Illuminations. Just a bit of trivia there for ya.
