Yeah yeah, I know, it's not a flashlight. Scheduled for release sometime in early summer is PETZL's newest headlamp, The ULTRA. From the info I've seen so far it looks like it could be a decent headlamp. It has 6 ;what appears to be 3 watt LED's and two different capacity batteries. The first of the two rechargeable batteries is a 2000mAH  and shows run times of 16 3/4 hrs, 4 3/4 hrs, and 1 1/2 hrs for the three settings of econ., optimum, and max. The second battery is a 4000mAH  with run times of 34 hrs, 9 1/2 hrs, 3 1/4 hrs. Both battery packs have a power level indicator right on them. It does not say what brand of LED's or what type of battery they're using. Trying to get that info from the folks in France as the boys here in Utah just don't know. The price sheet I saw shows $424.95 the headlamp with the 2000 mAH battery and $499.95 for the 4000 mAH version with the belt pack. Tried the site on the back of the brochure: www.petzl.com/ultra , but all I got was a "dead Link" error maessage. I'll post some more, if anyones interested, when I get better info.

Me too!   I love the headlamps...  Expensive but...

ULTRA BELT and ULTRA
Ultra-powerful headlamps designed for
action and adventure.
The ULTRA headlamp line is designed for
extreme activities requiring both long
distance and wide-angle lighting at the same
time; which are essential for anticipating
obstacles and complete freedom of
movement during activities such as
orienteering races, treks, running, etc.
With a maximum brightness of 350 lumens,
these lamps have an exceptional weight-topower
ratio. The innovative and modular
design of the ULTRA BELT and ULTRA
headlamps allows them to be easily and
quickly be adapted to any situation; by
increasing the battery life or changing the
way the headlamp is worn, for example.

Cheers!

Thanks LIPS, I appreciate the work you've done posting the photo's. Apparently they had a few of these on display at the Outdoor Retailers Winter Show here in Slat Lake City. Unfortunately for me I was stuck in a Level 1 Avalanche class up at Alta Ski resort on Fri., Sat., and today. Not that a Light is more important than my Life or Safety (I know thats got to be blasphemy here on this site) while in the back country, but I would've loved to have gotten my hands on it personally. Anyway, like I said, if Iget any more info I'll post it.

Not only does the guy look geeky his light is so bright that he's having to squint to read the coordinates of his geocache.  Tongue  The paper in his hand is so burnt out it might catch fire.
